Interrupt this series to say...
It's what we do that our children follow. We can implement all the 'right' parenting tools, but they will follow our example.
Ps. 1 says to meditate on the Word day and night and we will be like trees by streams of water. Then, we will produce fruit in due season....and everything we touch will prosper! What an amazing promise!
Tonight, our 6 year old could not fall asleep. I got her up, held her and prayed over her. She said, "mommy, while my sisters and I were trying to fall asleep, I prayed that God would send a thousand angels to watch over us tonight." This is my same daughter that told her hunger to "go" so she wouldn't whine and complain about being hungry while we ran errands.
Above all, if we just do what Ps. 1 says - teach our children about God - and allow them to follow Him - make Him first in our lives, He will be first in theirs! They WILL produce fruit in due season! What a MIGHTY God we serve!
How and what do you teach your children?

I love this. So true. I want my boys to see things like me spending time with God...they see their daddy who has unexpectedly been drawn into worship while a CD is playing...He will be on his face on the living room floor singing REALLY loud and sometimes crying. They just play all around him and it makes it all the more sweeter.
I want them more importantly to see me loving them, their daddy and others in action and in truth...deeply and for them to recognize that it is their primary calling too! I want them to know their greatest treasure is their relationship with God...and everything in their lives should flow from that living, active relationship!
Good stuff!
Me too girl - we need to talk!
Sometimes I get caught up in the dishes or administration of my home... I want them to know that is always secondary! (Mary vs. Martha!)
I've realized that I talk too much to my kids. A lot of what I say they might not even hear. But you are so right. They are watching us. I've gotten more involved in helping at church. And now I notice that the older kids are volunteering and getting involved. Some of the things I do now are because my Mom did them when I was little. She was big on Christmas traditions and led classes. Those are things that I am starting to do. She didn't really talk about what she did. She just did it and did it well. I was watching her.
